About the Event
World Down Syndrome Day
World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD) is observed on March 21st each year. This date was chosen to signify the uniqueness of the triplication of the 21st chromosome, which causes Down syndrome.
Purpose
The day aims to raise awareness and advocate for the rights, inclusion, and well-being of individuals with Down syndrome. It serves as a platform to promote understanding and acceptance in society.
History
World Down Syndrome Day was first observed in 2006, and in 2011, it was officially recognized by the United Nations. The day has grown in significance and is celebrated globally with various events and activities.
